For PUMA, our next major release of AquaLogic BPM Suite (ALBPM), the use of RSS will provide a great opportunity to expand how business users can get access to their business processes information. You will start to see the familiar RSS feed icon ( ) showing up inside the ALBPM Workspace. Information about the user's process instance will become available in a feed. Below is an early look, pre-GA, screen shot of the new Workspace already showing the RSS feed capability in the right upper-corner.
Once a user gets access to their RSS feed they can use it with their favorite reader application. After the login step is completed the reader can display the process information. This can be very powerful specially if you need a simple and quick way to display and integrate information about your processes. For example, you could use Microsoft Outlook 2007 to get the latest process update. Another example below, could be the use of Apple Safari browser to read RSS feeds.
ALBPM feeds can also be used within portals that support RSS. Or for that matter any web based application that can surface feeds. A good example could be using the RSS feeds from ALBPM with the new AquaLogic Pages product. Business users running AquaLogic Pages may decide to create a new situational application on the fly exposing process information to end users.
See you soon, with more information about PUMA!
Cheers,
