Ten reasons why you should look at Oracle BPM Suite 10gR3

There are several new features coming up in Oracle BPM 10gR3 (OBPM). Below is a summary of highlights for Business Analysts, Developers, and IT Administrators:

  1. Improved BPMN support - OBPM delivers improved BPMN support, providing more compliant constructs and modeling style.
  2. Microsoft Office 2007 Ribbon Integration - A Microsoft Office Ribbon plug-in is provided that enables processes to be kicked off from Microsoft Word and Excel. The ribbon is available via the OBPM WorkSpace and can be downloaded and quickly installed by users on their local machine. Once installed users can create new process instances directly from within Word or Excel.
  3. WorkSpace Usability Enhancements – The OBPM WorkSpace interface has been redesigned to improve usability for all users. This includes streamlining group actions, reducing the use of icons, providing more intuitive task-flows, and simplifying controls.
  4. Upgrade to Eclipse 3.3.2 - OBPM Studio now runs under the Eclipse 3.3.2 framework, which brings several stability improvements.
  5. Business Process Activity Stream – The OBPM Engine provides new Web 2.0 capabilities by surfacing a Process Activity Feed that can be viewed in WebCenter Interaction, similar in concept to what users see in Facebook. Users can see what activities are taking place and the aggregation of those activities is visible via the Business Process Activity Stream.
  6. Dashboard display panel - A new panel type is included that can render a dashboard. This new panel looks for all global activities implemented as dashboards available to the participant, who can pick the desired one at run time. The dashboard is then rendered in the panel, enabling drill downs and other dashboard like capabilities.
  7. Federated OBPM End-User Applications - Expanded capabilities for client applications such as the WorkSpace, PAPI-WS, Process Administrator to connect to multiple BPM Engines. This provides a federated capability such that a business user can login once to the WorkSpace and see processes instances in multiple departments/deployments.
  8. Improved integration with WebLogic Portal 10.3 (WLP) using a library module for the WorkSpace - Improved integration with WebLogic Portal by taking advantage of WebLogic Server Library Module technologies. This includes simplified installation and configuration. From the ALUI side, we are also updating the integration to support ALUI 6.5.
  9. Silent Run Configuration Wizard - The Configuration Wizard can now be run in silent mode, based on a template file. This is especially important for administrators in script only configuration environments.
  10. Oracle Service Bus (AquaLogic Service Bus 3.x) Support – Updated the existing integration with AquaLogic Service Bus 2.6, to support the latest now Oracle Service Bus.

If you are going to be around next week for Oracle OpenWorld 2008, be sure to attend our BPM sessions and come by the booth to see the latest demos. Looking forward to seeing you there!
